joining branches

thehodgeFebruary 19, 2012

I have two seprate trees across the pot from eachother and want to fuse their branches together to make an archway. Can i accomplish this by shaving the bark off of them and wiring the exposed parts together?

Interesting idea. Anyone successfully done this? Theoretically it could work just like grafting.

This is very frequently done & is called an 'approach graft'. It works if you pare the two branches down so you can match cambium to cambium. Bind the branches tightly together with grafting tape or black electrical tape with the sticky side out, then seal the ends (of the tape) with grafting wax or cut paste. Wait

The best time to do this would be very early summer - around Father's Day.
