JM seedlings in pre-bonsai stage
I have 5 JM seedlings, 2 oshio beni's (I think) and 3 bloodgoods (I think....again). I doubt they are true to their parents, i swiped them underneath the adult maples. I enjoy growing from seed though and am interested in seeing the possible differences. They are currently 4-8 inches tall and in 6 inch circular plastic pots with regular potting soil. 3-4 of them i plan on just putting in the ground and letting them be their natural self, but at least 1 will be bonsai. Is it better for them to be overpotted in a container until i decide what to do with them or should i just put all of them in the ground? I worry about animals getting to them and my soil is about 40% clay (based on observation, not actual testing...it doesn't crack very much when dry and is still fertile, but it is still dense). Sorry for asking so much from these forums, i rarely return the favor due to lack of knowledge towards bonsai :/ Trying to learn though.
