A reminder of Dad

Looking out of an upstairs window this morning I suddenly caught sight of something purple. It's the first Iris unguicularis to flower in my garden. It came from a clump I grabbed just as we were leaving Dad's house for the last time after he died. I'm so pleased to see it looking so cheerful in mid winter and I have to admit it made me sniff a bit. I wasn't sure it would bloom in my gloomier, cooler garden. Who else has reminders in their gardens?

I have Iris...I don't have botanical memories really...I'm the one that's the gardener. My parents tolerated my plants.
I'm glad you have something though.

What a nice story.
For as much as I like to get new plants, it's the ones with a story behind them that I treasure even more than the expensive or rare. That's quite a reminder and thanks for sharing.

My dad's hyacinths are still coming up every spring. He died 5 years ago.

I have an azalea and summer snowflakes that came from my mom. I believe I got them about 30 years ago.

A good deal of the plants I have were pass-a-longs. Isn't that what gardeners are really about?
