Al's mix or gritty mix

sharbear50(6a Bella Vista)January 8, 2012

I am now in a small apartment and reduced to container gardening. My problem, I don't have much space for storing assorted soil mixes. Is there a good gritty mix or something similar already mixed that I can purchase somewhere?

If not, someone needs to make one to sell to people like myself. Just sayin...

Any suggestions?

Well, that first sentence didn't come out quite right...sorry. I didn't mean "reduced" actually...just that I no longer have a full blown "garden".

Seriously I wish there was someone who made a Al's gritty mix and marketed it for sale.

As far as I know, there is no equivalent to the Gritty Mix on the market.
However, there is a fairly decent bagged mix similar to the 5-1-1. Fafard produces
heavyweight mixes (can't remember the exact designation) as well as a "Nursery mix,"
which has a high percentage of bark. That would be better than most mixes.

Unfortunately, the cost of transporting the Gritty Mix would be prohibitive.

Thanks Josh, I will check around and see if I can find a good mix. My container plants (bromeliads and assorted ivy, philos, etc) will need to be re-potted soon.
