I've got crocus flowering in my garden now, which is a sign that spring its here. Crocus appearance is an event that usually occurs at the end of March, however!
Where I live, we don't get to have a winter hardly. It may get below freezing only a handful of nights, & that temperature during the day is even more. The best of a winter we can get is in the 50's. It's very common to have the A/C running on Christmas & New Year. Parts of my garden are already bloomed.
We had an earlier spring last year---I had crocus in my yard on Feb 2nd. This year the same clump started blooming 2 days ago. I believe Punxy Phil said we would have no more winter, this year, hmmm
I think so. I was hoping that some bogen via was going to die in zone 7 but it lives on. It is like a zombie apocalypse.
Different crocus species have different bloom times. Crocus chrysanthus blooms early, hence common name Snow Crocus. They can bloom in January. C. tommasinianus is usually late February. Crocus vernus bloom later, usually late March to early April. All these times are variable with the weather conditions.
