moving tulips bulbs

finchelover(5b-6)February 21, 2011

I had planted some tulip bulbs along road, big mistake. I think eventually they won't survive with road grater pushing snow and gravel, rocks on to them so I wonder can I move them as soon after they bloom thus I will know where they are. Good or bad idea

What kind of tulips are they? Most tulips only bloom one year anyway. If they are a perennial kind and you really want to save them, let them bloom and then wait until the foliage starts to yellow. Then dig them up with a pitchfork and replant. It's better yet to move them in the fall, but if you're like me, you'll forget all about them by then :)

But then again, if you were like me, you'd just let them go, see how they do... and buy a buttload of NEW tulips next year and plant them somewhere safer!
