unplanted irises

finchelover(5b-6)February 16, 2012

do you think they are any good to plant when it warms up. I had planted a few but then became ill so just placed them in my wheelbarrow in our big shed so if I soaked them before planting in spring will they do OK

Hope you are all better by now.

Assuming these are the bearded iris rhizomes, they should be just fine. I have some I didn't get planted and they have overwintered on the carport, which is less protection than your shed. You can soak them a bit before planting, but I don't think it is really necessary and won't soak mine. Bearded irises are quite rugged.

I see we are in the same zone too.

I know they do great in Michigan without any help or care.

Since beardeds should get a good soaking after planting there's no need for a pre-soak. Then no more water, except what Mother Nature provides, for a month. Even if your soil is loose.
