Variegated serissa being finicky and browning/dropping leaves

Pallas_AthenaJune 14, 2014

Hi everyone,

First of all, I know that serissas are notoriously difficult and hated throughout the bonsai growing community. However, some plantseller conned me into buying one with promises of super-easy maintenance and copious flowers. However, it has started to grow, brown, and drop leaves continuously ever since I purchased it from him, when it had previously been flourishing. I've put it outside after having it indoors, watered it copiously, and left it in the sun. As you can see, there is new growth, so it's not totally dead... but how can I keep it green? What on Earth does this plant want from me?

Put it in some shade/partial shade.

When did you last fertilize?

Serissa tree's will loose their leaves when they have had a change in environment because they are so finicky. They do love to be outside in the sun so you've done a good job doing that. Serissa's also do not like to dry all the way out before being watered so make sure to water when the top 1/2" or more is dry. Give it time to acclimate and it will be fine.
