Lycoris companions?

madabouteu(8A - central Alabama)March 1, 2012

I was just given several dozen Lycoris bulbs. In my situation, my best bet is probably to place them in containers, Since the foliage is summer dormant, I am thinkig I would want to plant something else in the container, someting with low growing foliage. Any suggestions?

I have mine planted among dwarf nandinas in the ground. When the lyrcoris bloom in the fall it looks as if the Nandinas are blooming. Then the lycoris foliage blends in with the nandinas during the winter. It's a nice combo. You could do the same thing with hellebores or any other evergreen low shrub or perennial.

Thanks for the suggestion - I even know where I can get some dwarf Nandinas at a cheap price!
