Help with Tulips in a Pot

mightytsarMarch 19, 2010

I forced about 8 tulips in a 6" high pot. I let them chill for about three months then brought them inside under a grow light at about 75 degrees. The tulips are soooo tall and I wanted them to be about half this height. How to I accomplish that in the future? Different kind of tulip? Less chilling? Did the grow light make them stretch? Any help is appreciated.

Different kind of tulip, you want dwarf ones, or some of the species ones are naturally smaller - you might try the ones with the lovely variegated leaves like Fire of Love or Double Red Riding Hood.

-you did a great job by the way, they look perfect to me.

They also don't look stretched. If you want half that height I think you will have to change variety.

Do you know the name of the tulips you planted? If so, did you check to see what their approximate height is supposed to be?

I'm guessing that the grow light may have attributed some to their height, but am not positive...sorry.
