When is best time to dig tulip bulbs???

After the foliage has died down, but before it is gone completely and the position of the bulb is lost. Many bulbs are damaged when digging them when we don't know where they are. Al

Al..do you have any suggestions for marking plants that one wishes to dig up and remove other than plant ID marker? How does one know they have dug up all the bulbs planted in same area?

Al mentioned digging before the foliage is completely gone in order to mark the spot. I sometimes push it a bit more and dig just as the leaves begin to yellow. They are still attached pretty good to the bulbs at that point and it's easy to dig it all at the same time.

Let them dry out for another week or two somewhere in the shade until the foliage is completely brown and bulbs, roots and foliage all easily break apart.
