Would vinca be compatible with bulbs?

birchhillMarch 19, 2012

For years I have enjoyed the crocuses and daffodils that emerge in early spring under my dogwood tree. While I was away last summer this area was invaded by a tiny weed (no more than 3 inches high) that has become well established. I have tried to eradicate it by pulling it up but even if I were successful it would simply return because this weed seems to be quite common in our neighborhood. Rather that try to fight it I was wondering if I could simply make the area less hospitable for it by planting a ground cover under the tree like vinca.

My question is this: would the bulbs be able to poke up through the vinca?

easily. I've got bulbs coming up through vinca "illumination" and it really helps make the color of the bulbs pop...
