Name this plant

gvan334April 5, 2013

I live in the Southeastern corner of Alabama. This plant has leaves resembling a Red Hot Poker, but a bit softer and more flexible. It get morning sun and a little afternoon shade. It blooms on a long stem, from bottom to top and blooms last at least a week. Unless we have a heavy frost, the leaves don't even die back in winter.

There are some very large, Mediterranean scillas. Look at Scilla hyacinthoides; they don't grow in my climate so I'm just guessing.

paula_in_pa - there are no blue Yuccas. I agree it looks like a Scilla. Maybe Scilla hyacinthoides as hawki suggests.

Could it be Camassia?

Good call flowergirl. It does look like a Camassia.

Camassia would be the obvious guess for a tall blue bulb bloom but I would doubt that id pretty quickly. The individual flowers are simple too small even on Camassia scilloides which is about the nearest imho.

I still think this is Scilla hyacinthoides. Compare the images under that name at the link.

Here is a link that might be useful: Scilla hyacinthoides
