Planting daffodils in the spring

muligus(z5 Cent. MICH)April 22, 2008

Has anyone any experience in planting daffodil bulbs in the spring. I know they should be planted in the fall, and I did plant a bunch last October and they are doing fine and are blooming beautifully. However, I found some discounted bulbs at Wally World marked down to $2 a bag for 18 bulbs and I couldn't pass up the bargain. They obviously were not sold last fall and are still hard. A few feel really light and dried out but I think they are still alive. I am willing to wait for them to bloom next spring but I need to know -- what will happen if I plant them now. Will they just send up leaves with no flowers? Will the spring planting mess them up? I just love daffodils and I have heard they are deer and vole resistant.

The odds are great no blooms but leaves next year but plant them now and put a handful of bone meal in each hole.

They should be fine next year or the year after.
