Can Gloriosa lilies cling to a trellis?

steve22802(7a VA)April 3, 2009

I'm planning ahead where to locate some Gloriosa lilies and I'm trying to figure out what type of trellis they will need. Do they have tendrils that can wrap around wire or rootlets that adhere to the surface of materials? Also, how tall should I expect the vines to grow in one season here in zone 7?

Thanks,

Steve

Here:

Well, it looks like you need to do the vine's work :-\

But it also looks like it'd be worth it!

Hmmmm...in the picture it looks like they are tying the vines to the trellis. Guess I'll have to help guide and fasten them as needed.

Gloriosas are interesting in that they cling to supports using tendrils that extend from the distal ends of their leaves; I've never needed to tie mine up, but I lean them against the stems of shrubs and small trees to get them headed in the right direction initially.
