Does my Bonsai need to be repotted?

RanfuOctober 17, 2013

Hi All,

So last week my girlfriend got me a juniper bonsai from a plant nursery. Upon looking at it I noticed that some of the roots were exposed on the surface.

So i guess my question is:

A) Do I need to re-pot it to where the roots are completely under the ground?

B) Should I just cover the roots with more bonsai mix?
or

C) Is it fine the way it is, and I shouldn't be worried?

I guess I'm really concerned because its Autumn and I know dormancy season is coming soon.

But then again I live in Southeast Texas where our winters aren't really "winters"

Thanks in advance.

Hi

I wouldn't worry too much about those roots at the surface as the tree looks very healthy and there will be a load more roots doing their job below the surface ;)

It looks quite dry to me though..

Cheers :)

I agree, those roots probably aren't essential to the vitality of the tree. Seems planted a bit high. I'd get it off that stake, unless there's some compelling reason to leave it be.
