Short Progression of Ficus m.

ryan_tree(7aVA)October 13, 2011

Hey all,

I've had this Ficus m. since May of this year. Back in Mid July I had started an air layer on the tree to start removing the bare, straight trunks.

Here it is when it was bought:

I then air layered one of the straight branches:

And I seperated that layer the other day:

And did some work to the bottom half:

And future plans for this guy. Cut off the branch in red, air layer off the branch in yellow, then get new branches to sprout in the green areas:

Just thought I would share with you all.

Ryan

That looks really neat, how old was it when you got it?

Thanks Joe. I have no idea of the age of it, but the trunk alone is close to 3 inches, so it can't be that young.

I'll be chopping that branch on the right off. Air layering it would only slow development, and if I chop it I can flare the base on it (the right way).
