Square Ft. with Container?

I'm curious has anyone ever tried square foot gardening in a container? My "container" is 4.5 by 5.5 feet long. Would it be possible to use the square foot principles? Has anyone ever tried?

I don't know why you couldn't,as long asit is deep enough and has drainage. I have seen some safe gardeners talk about building table top units, which would indicate that containers work fine.
