Landscaping ideas for small corner lot

fragrant(z5 ON)December 10, 2008

Hello everyone:

My daughter just recently - end of October - bought her first house. She is a newbie gardener, and would like to begin some landscaping next spring.

I was wondering if someone would kindly give some suggestions as to what she could do to add some privacy and structure to her yard. Ideas for a small tree and some shrubs would be very much appreciated.

The front of the house (garage side) faces north and she is in zone 5b Ontario, Canada.

Thank you in advance,

The double weeping cherry tree is an ornamental tree, keep it prunned it has lovely hanging limbs with pink double cherries--not too large of tree. Another example would be a Japanese Maple and build around that. Hosta breeds of the new variety are low maintenance & drought resistant, hydrangea (ever blooming), sedium (autumn Joy) and a some Lily bulbs, and my favorite and many landscapers are Stella Dora's-yellow and mauve and Happy Return Daylillies--it is a start. Lilies and Hostas you may have. I wouold start with mid-size hydrangeas. Hope this helps. I look in garden catelogs for landscape design and layouts!

Happy Spring Gardening!
