shade roses for growing on a trellis

lovepurpleJuly 15, 2006

I'm trying to use a trellis to separate my property from my neighbor's. I would love to have climbing roses growing on them, but not sure which variety would work in only part sun. It will get mainly morning sun. Any suggestions?

I don't think you'll have any luck with climbing roses in the shade, they really perfer full sun. Perhaps the Canadian variety William Baffin, John Cabot???? You would be better off with a clematis or honeysuckle vine in part shade.

No, Westerland is a beautiful, fragrant orange rose that does well in part shade. I have a friend who grows one on the side of his deck and it gets mostly shade. It's at least 12 ft tall and gorgeous. I love it.
