Suggestions for kid friendly plant combinations

janetm_md(Z7a)April 14, 2011

I need to plant two planters for in front of my daughter's elementary school. The pots are about 2'x 1'and are in full sun. Since children will be passing by I'd really like them to be people friendly (no thorns, poisonous plants, etc). Would love any suggestions you might have.

Portulaca grandiflora (moss roses), sempervivum (houseleeks/hen & chicks), assorted herbs, wax begonia, Catharanthus roseus (periwinkle) are a few that come to mind for hot/dry. You'll need to do a little legwork to determine if there are any toxicity issues associated with any on the short list.
