Woohoo, I have some beautiful EE's this year, but I'm afraid they will not last through the winter outside. They are huge, do I cut them back to bring them in, will mulching outside work? Please help, thanks..oh and I'm in Zone 5..
i would sugest digging them up an putting them vamiculite........
They probably aren't hardy to your zone so you'll have to dig them up. You can pot them up and grow them in the house if you want over the winter or pack them in peat and put them in a frost free dark place to winter over. You may want to go to the aroid forum to read what they have to say. They may have other ideas.
I am in zone 6 (almost 7) and I take a chance every year by leaving mine in the ground and mulching them, you really need to dig them up, if you don't like the idea of storing the bulbs, put them in planters, even if the green dies back at least you can take them back out in the spring and they will come back up.
I am in zone 5 MI and have EE too. What I do each fall is dig them up (actually I just put them in the yard in pots) and bring them inside for the winter. They are fine and stay green and continue to grow and get bigger.
I have a huge area of large EE..I don't dig them up, but in other areas of the yard and landscape I must have them dug up and stored for winter ,less they rot ..
