Lettuce in Cold Storage Room?

ShellLea(5)April 21, 2012

I've started my seeds inside then put them out in the traditional garden for a few years now with great results. I have a new house with a cold storage room in the basment and I was thinking I could grow lettuce in there year round. Would it be easier to grow in windows? With seven people in the house I'd like to be able to grow my own all year since we like a great variety and it gets costly in the off seasons to buy it. Advice or experience please!

Providing enough light in the winter time will be your biggest problem. If the windows you want to use get at least 4+ hours of direct sun in the winter then you would probably be ok.

I do have lights for the room, about 4 of them. I'll give it a try and see what happens! :)
