Spinach issues

bksinaz(z9 AZ)February 28, 2014

I planted what I thought was spinach, but this does not look like what I buy in the stores. Please take a look at my attached picture. The plant is about 4 inches across; about the diameter of a dixie cup and about an inch tall. Last year I got the same clump, but it did get bigger and taller. I am sure I will get the same size results this year.

Am I growing spinach? If I am, is there a better variety to be growing?

It looks like spinach to me.

There are different types of spinach, having different types and sizes of leaves. The one in your picture appears to have crinkled leaves, like savoy cabbage. Other varieties have smooth leaves.

I can't tell you which variety is best. It's a matter opinion I think. Try to find one which is slow to bolt and grow it in cool weather.
