37-gallon Roughneck for Earthtainer?

AvocadosNumberApril 13, 2012

I'm having trouble finding enough 31-gallon Roughneck containers for my Earthtainer ambitions in the San Diego area. Home Depot has the 37-gallon version. I've seen some people mentioning they had used these for Earthtainers. Are there any pitfalls I should know about? Could I go with three tomato plants in these, perhaps?

You should be using the RuggedTotes available at Lowes. They have a lifetime warranty.

also, the gurneys / Burpee cage options will fit only on the 31 gallon RuggedTotes.

Thanks very much Raybo! I appreciate the advice, and the terrific guide. Can't wait to get them built and populated.

I just finished building and planting two EarthTainers.

The only thing that was difficult to find was the stainless-steel tubing used to bend the cage; the eBay listing it referenced had long since expired. I finally found the tubing at http://www.aaastainless.com/316smls.html

I was glad I found it since it made it super easy to bend the legs on the cage just right.

Now I just have to be patient and see how my cucumbers and peppers turn out.

Good Luck

I just checked the link in the EarthTainer Guide and it worked. Both links are for a Company in Caty TX, so I am assuming it may be the same Company.

I just ordered one via the link you posted, so I may change the Guide's link to their direct Site - rather than through Ebay.

Have fun with your new EarthTainers!!
