How soon can I sow parsley in a sheltered window box?

jayco(5b NY)March 28, 2012

I have a south-facing window box and I'd like to start my parsley in there. When should I do this? I'm right on the border between zones 5 & 6, but I'm sure this area stays a good bit warmer than that. I'm not worried about it germinating slowly. Thanks!

Any time. Since it will germinate - slowly - whenever the conditions are right just as it does when it reseeds itself. Many over on the Herbs forum talk about seeding it in the winter even.

I winter-sowed it and it is already up and showing true leaves. Parsley, with its slow germination, is ideal for winter-sowing. There's a whole forum about it here if you are interested. One of the easiest ways to start many herbs and vegetables--flowers too!
