Florida enclosed pool area landscaping
I'm looking for suggestions on large potted plants to use in an enclosed patio/pool area (Lanai as it's called in Florida).
In order of importance here's what they need to be -
1. Tropical look
2. Limited growth - not to ever exceed 8' high
3. Low maintenance
a) doesn't drop things all over the deck or in the pool
b) tolerant of very little water or torrential rains and occasional freezes
5. Colorful or exotic looking
Because FL is a bug and vermin riddled hot swampy mess, these screened in enclosures are necessary to keep bad things out... but they also keep things in - like dirt and plant droppings - so one cannot keep it clean with a leaf blower or hose because there's nowhere for the mess to go inside these "cages" and it just ends up swirling around inside. Less cleanup the better.
Ours is not wired for drip watering/sprinklers, so for the few weeks a year when it's not pouring rain, we might have to water them by hand if the constant excessive humidity doesn't keep them alive!
Thanks in advance for your plantscaping ideas!
