Alpine Russet seed potatoes at Walmart

edweather(Zone 5a/b Central NY)March 11, 2013

FWIW the russet seed potatoes that Walmart is selling this year from Dutch Valley Growers are Alpine Russets. The bag doesn't say what kind they are, but I emailed the company and they told me. Not sure how Alpine ranks among the other russets, but it's hard to pass up a 5 lb bag of seed potatoes for 6 bucks. Seems like the online seed potatoes are really expensive and I don't like the idea of grocery store potatoes unless they are organic.

Thanks for the heads up. It's almost time to get the potatoes in the ground. I planted a Smart Bag with Nicola yesterday. Insulated with plenty of straw. It's strictly an experiment to see how they do in a bag. I enjoyed myself so much being outside in the sunshine that I even sifted the soil for the bottom of the bag.
