front foundation planting ideas

ericinvtApril 3, 2012

I bought my house last year. As you can see in the picture, it has 60+year old cedars along the front porch. They are bare and very over grown, and just last week a car went off the road and took out the two lining the front steps. They are being taken out this month and I am now planning what to plant in their place. I thought this would be fun, but looking through the web, I am finding myself totally overwhelmed!! Any suggestions, ideas, etc? The front of the house faces north/north west. I'd like plantings that soften the house and make it just seem like it's grown up out of the landscape, nothing too formal.

You really need to post some pics that show the context and situated conditions and the property line.
