A stupid turnip question.

So, this morning I was at Agri Supply, having a good ole time, and saw a small container of turnips and since my seeds are not appearing yet (too old maybe?) I splurged and got a 4 pack. The girl at the register just said " oh turnip greens" but now i have looked at the tag thing that is stuck in the soil, and all it says is Turnip Greens and planting instructions. Don't all turnips have, well, turnips as the root? No a major disaster, but What have I got? Or done? It's been a very long week.

Who knows? There are many varieties of turnips. Most common are Seven Top, which has a tough non palatable root and is commonly grown for greens and Purple Top White Globe which is grown for both roots and greens. There are about a 100 known varieties.

the turnips that we used to for greens only produced small "turnips" that were sort tough and fibrous. Turnip Greens are quite tasty mixed with mustard greens.

Thanks, we love the greens, and the turnip part too, live and learn.

Michael - you stole my laugh.
Harvey Horses - I thought there were only stupid questions, not stupid turnips.
Forgive me, I spend too much time with Sophomores.

I KNEW somebody would call me on that! LOL.
They are planted for better or worse, smarter or stupider (more stupid?)
I slipped in the mud, landed on my elbow and tore my rotator cuff. I blame all my mistakes on the pain meds today. No excuse for previous.
