Will lettuce & cabbage plants survive low 20's

KarenPA_6bMarch 9, 2014

Anyone knows if head lettuce and savoy cabbage plants survive temps in the low 20's? I just bought some seedlings and want to plant them but I just found out that my area will have one cold day in the next 5 days where temps can get to the low 20's at night.

I sure wouldn't risk them. 30's is one thing for them, lower 20s is something else. If you decide to plant them anyway then plan to cover them too.

Mature plants will survive, but not seedlings - they are a lot more tender.

A lot depends on whether they've been hardened off. I wouldn't count on it with newly-purchased seedlings.
