Screening Plant Suggestion

mjackson(7 NoVA)April 22, 2013

Hello, I am looking for ideas on an evergreen to use as a screen. I had a leyland cyprus but for the space it was too big. I am looking for something that grows to around 10-12 feet max and has a width of no more than 5-6 feet. I am going to use it between my house and the neighbors to screen a portion of the driveway and front entrance of their house. I have indicated where I would like it in this picture.

ny suggestions would be appreciated.

I'm biased, but I love bamboo. It's beautiful in winter. (and every other season)

But if you consider that route, I would suggest a clumping bamboo, not a runner. Runners can get out of control. I can attest to this.

First plant that comes to mind is Camellia if soil is acid enough (or amend.) Next is Dwarf Burford Holly. Either can attain and be maintained in the size range you're after. Both can be grown in shrub or tree form.
