Privacy screening options from neighbor

dsmgardenApril 20, 2010

Hello all. I live in zone 5 and I am looking for any suggestions for what I could put up for privacy screen between my lilac bush and the house so the neighbors can see my patio, which is where the pictures below are taken from. The spacing between the lilac bush and where the gutter is on the ground is about 5 1/2 feet wide. The house is about 11' high to the roofline. I was originally thinking emerald green arborvitae, but those don't seem to be wide enough for that space so any suggestions on what I could plant there for year round screening or at least spring/summer/fall screening. I really don't want to put in a tall fence. Thanks!

How about an arbor of lattice with a fast-growing annual or deciduous vine right at the deck, going up 5 to 6 feet. It would be private in the summer, when you are most likely to be using the deck.
