Fuchsia in container-can it be pruned?

jphmansfieldJune 4, 2013

I have two containers in shady porch areas with a fuschia which is doing nicely. That said. I am wondering if it will grow top heavy and start to fall over. Should I prune it shorter to make it more full and bushy and less tall?

It blooms on new wood, so prune as you like.

As a follow up. Its early June, so is it too late to prune for this season. They are blooming as picture shows but a little spindly. Thanks

I would guess you are in So. Calif. and your fuchsia is an all year plant. I see no problem with pruning now or all most any time. You will be giving up some bloom now in favor of more stems and more bloom to come. Al
