Need Companion Perennials for Zone 5 that will Winter over in Some 2' Containers. Any Suggestions?
I'm in Ohio and have tried to overwinter some plants, including iris bulbs, outside in half whiskey barrels. The soil froze solid and nothing survived. This past winter, I was able to overwinter hybrid tea roses in similar containers by putting them in a shed on the west side of my house surrounded by insulating materials. Roses go completely dormant and are fine with no light and little water. I am in an area where the roses probably would have survived if planted in the ground. We had several cold periods, but I don't know if the soil froze. You might succeed with a plant like that.
Well I think I'll do a Dayliliy (Which Survived in a bucket of water of winter) in the Middle But need a Companion Plant Something low that will Flow over like Dianthus or Bugleweed. But have no Experience in Zone 5 or any other
Delete post. Sorry, I see you were looking for flowers, not fruit.
