Indoor Eggplants

pretty.gurl(5)March 19, 2013

Anyone with experience growing eggplants indoors? I would appreciate any advice. I have a couple of slow growers that I would like to establish as perennials.

You proficient at hand pollinating? Thats the big problem w. trying to get plants to fruit indoors: no insects to take care of things for you

Yes. I have been successful with tomatoes and peppers indoors.

Eggplant needs a lot of sun and bees for pollination your fruits if any will be very few and small.

Here is a link to an older post. It is more about overwintering them and then putting them back outside, than trying to get fruit indoors. But maybe thats what you are referring too?

Here is a link that might be useful: Perennial Eggplant

I would think you would want to put them back outside in the summer. They are one of the few plants that bloom and fruit best in the very hottest part of our summer. I don't want it that hot inside! :)

I will put them outside when it gets warmer but the main idea is to establish them as year round plants. In the winter I will have them under lights and near a window as is the current set up. They are mini-eggplants so they should do well in small containers.
