Fence Idea ?

bunky_mi(5)May 14, 2011

I bought some property and to spruce up the road front I want to put up a fence, I have 36ft of front age from the property line and the Drive way, I want to put 4x4 post and 2x6 and 2x4's for the rails, I don't have a way of hauling 12ft boards and I don't want to waste 2 foot of each 8ft boards so I was going to make the fence with 4 ft section in the middle, or should I have two 2 foot end sections ??

Anyone have any suggestions ??

Maximum distance between posts should be 8' centre to centre and rather than trim all of them just cut one to suit.

Are you sure you want the fence right up against the driveway? (And are you sure you'd be able to dig a post-hole there?) How about planting a narrow and slow-growing shrub at each end of the fence? Then you'd only need five posts and four 8' sections.

Or if a shrub at the corner of the property isn't advisable, begin the fence at the corner, have four 8' sections, and use the remaining 4' to the driveway as a bed with a shrub or two providing a bit of a hedge.
