Sweet potatoe Rotting w/ slips HELP

elvimiller(5)April 16, 2012

I started several sweet potatoes for slips. 2 were my potatoes from last year and 3 are store bought. 3 of them have started slips, about an inch long. (2 of mine and 1 from store) All of them are rotting! I used the tooth pick in water method. What happened? Can I cut off the rotten part and keep going? I also started 2 in soil, but after 3 weeks nothing is happening. I have done this before and never had this happen. HELP I fear that if i start all over I will not have any slips, and they are way to expensive to buy to get enough to feed a family of 7!

cut off the rotted part i'd suggest without the luxury of vision. if the slips are long enough at least 2"s say remove them and that part of the tuber.

see our presentation, we never use the tooth pick method.
