Curry Plant Help!

kelly633(7A)July 28, 2014

I recently purchased a curry plant (helichrysum italicum) and was looking for some helpful tips on how to take care of it. ( Soil type, watering, pruning..) some of the leaves are starting to brown and curl ( I think its been over watered) . I have a feeling its very similar to taking care of a rosemary plant, but any tips would be grand! Thanks!

Ye- if you can keep rosemary happy, you can keep Helichrysum happy. They want excellent drainage and aeration, full sun, won't tolerate wet feet, and any 3:1:2 RATIO (Ratio is different and much more important than NPK %s. 24-8-16, 12-4-8, 9-3-6 are all 3:1:2 ratios) fertilizer will help you keep TDS/EC (essentially 'salt') levels as low as you possibly can w/o deficiencies.

Soil choice is probably the most important decision you can make when establishing a planting. It determines to a very large degree how much potential you'll be able to coax out of your plants. Understanding how water behaves in soils is probably the largest step forward a container gardener can make at any one time. Get more info below. A couple of hours making yourself familiar with the concept outlined at the thread I'll link you to will undoubtedly affect how you look at container gardening for as long as you garden.
