White Spots on Pea Seedling

PaigeJessica(10a)April 17, 2012

I wonder if anyone here has seen this before? It doesn't look like any picture of powdery mildew I've seen. Two of my biggest seedlings are showing these white spots on their leaves. They don't seem to be affected by it but it's been worrying me. Last week I sprayed them with neem oil and the only pest I've seen on them is the occasional caterpillar. They are in a raised bed under shade cloth since it's getting too hot for them.

Any ideas?

This picture is of the same plant.

Looks like Downy or Powdery mildew. Not sure the difference between those mildews yet.

I dunno, it doesn't look like any powdery mildew on google images. And I thought powdery mildew grew in hot and humid conditions? It doesn't get humid here...it's super dry :/

I see normal pea seedlings, with a little white varigation to their leaves, as they usually have. Maybe search for images of pea seedlings? Otherwise maybe I'm not seeing what you are seeing...

Like sunnibel7, I think the silver streaks are natural variegation. Mine have it too, and there do not seem to be any problems.

Seriously? I feel so dumb lol. It's my first time growing peas and I had no idea...I just looked up pictures and it does appear to be normal. Thank you so much.

Oh good, it is so much better when a problem isn't a problem! I just kept looking at thatpicture trying to see a problem before I suddenly thought, oh, the varigation maybe? Cheers!

It looks like it might be leaf miners or Pea Enation Mosaic Virus.

PEMV is transmitted by aphids. When the weather warms up and the aphids proliferate, that's usually when PEMV shows up.

See link below for photos of both. Pests & disease are the bottom half of the article. PEMV is the very last photo.
