I am working a temporary job promoting Bayer Advanced chemicals at Lowe's. The Scott's rep, my competitor, said they eat other things. Oh, how I'd love to prove her wrong!!
The eat more earthworms than anything else.
Here's some info from Purdue University
Here is a link that might be useful: mole info from Purdue
She said they eat vegetable plants. I found that hard to believe.
I have only ever known miles to be carnivores, feeding mostly on earthworms and occasionally on a grub, but never on a plant.
Gophers eat plants.
Maybe she was thinking of gophers! Now THEY will munch your garden right out from under you! Lots of people get them mixed up! Nancy
People confuse moles, the carnivores, with gophers or voles which are herbivores. She is absolutely wrong.....something you can show her with ten seconds of Googling.
For fun, see if you can find a picture of a mole's mouth. They look like a shark with all those pointy teeth! Then you can ask her "does it look like this can eat veggies?" :)
the confusion often arises because voles will often use tunnels made by moles. and also because they differ by only one consonant.
I once had a mole run in the fall that went down to the garden. In the spring after I planted sweet corn, They tunneled right down the row and ate the grains. I had to "intercept" the tunnel with field corn sown across the tunnel.

I know that Scott's was recruiting Master Gardener's to push their products. Does GA allow MG's to recommend products by name?
