Can I start seeds in this mix?

mikedavid00August 14, 2011

I need to start seeds and was hoping that I could start them directly in the below mix:

30% Peat Moss

30% Cow Manure (0.6-0.4-0.4)

40% Perlite

1 tsp of dolomite lime pellets per gallon (less lime because there's less peat moss).

Would this burn my seedlings?

Thanks a bunch for the help..

When I start seeds, it is with the intention of transplanting them into a growing mix with the first set of true leaves. I am not concerned with the fertility of the seed starting mix. Tell us what your intentions are, and what seeds are you starting. Al

I wanted to grow Sweet Million cherries for indoor experimentation through the winter.

I don't want want to transplant. I already know how to do that. I want to have the seed grow and just keep going until it's ready for a 'large' container with hotter soil.

The cow manure will affect the drainage and the oxygen in the mix, leave it out. When the seedlings have a set of true leaves, they will need fertilizer, preferably a weak synthetic ready for the immediate use of the plant. Al
