How Fine Are Pine Bark Fines?

yumtomatoes(10a/FLA)August 26, 2011

I can buy Better-Gro Orchid Bark. It is made of fir bark (which is a conifer, but not a pine), and it looks like chunks to me about the size of my fingernail on my thumb. How fine does the bark have to be to qualify as pine bark fines?

Take a look at this pic:

The bark at 3,6, and 9 are from different suppliers and all suitable for the 5:1:1 mix. Even a little finer product would be just fine as well. The fir bark at the top is what I use in the gritty mix, and the mix in the center is the dry 5:1:1.
