Growing Grape Hyacinth seeds

alwaysagarden(CA 9b)February 28, 2009

Just wondering if anyone has had good luck with getting new plants of Grape Hyacinth by planting the seeds. I know the small bulbs re-propigate but would like to grow even more with the seed. They are the cutes little stalks of blue flowers.

Also, how long before they start to flower?

Hi Cindy!
IRC, They need 16 weeks of cold treatment. I was planning to plant some of these this winter, but the seeds were hiding someplace until this week, when they somehow appeared right under the desk here. Funny, cuz I thoroughly cleaned this room right before turkey day and AGAIN before xmas. NO IDEA how they got where I found them.

They prolly are going in the fridge.

Im not sure how long they take to bloom, prolly couple years.
