What to do with horseradish in containers?

beesneeds(zone 6)September 26, 2013

I potted up three large containers of horseradish this spring. And before the winter hits, I want to find out what to do with these containers.

Should I leave them outdoors over winter? Or should I move them to my solarium for over winter? Their current outdoor location is on the south side of my house that gets lots of sun and is somewhat sheltered from winds, but sometimes gets some pretty serious snow drifting.

These containers are medium sized garbage cans and not large tubs, so I'm sort of worried about them freezing up rock solid over the course of the winter- not too sure what that will do to the horseradish.

I've read that I shouldn't even think about harvesting roots till after the frosts come, which is no problem. I'm just not sure what I'm supposed to do after I harvest the roots. I've read just replant immediately and not to do it till spring.

Any advice on what to do would be welcome!
