Shrub Spacing from Chain Fence

aunj629July 8, 2013

I purchased a few spicebushes (Lindera benzoin) for some color and privacy in my backyard. I plan to plant them (when they come this fall) along side a standard chain link fence. Their mature width is 6-12 ft. I plan to plant them 5 ft apart but how far would you recommend planting them from the fence? I was thinking 3-4 ft away.

Why are you going to plant them so close?
