pot size

billybonsai2315September 4, 2013

I have been curious to see if the pot size really makes a difference? Is it possible for it to do more harm than good if the pot is "too big"? Reason I am asking is I am getting ready to repot most of my plants into the famous Al's gritty mix but I didn't know if I should buy a couple smaller pots for my smaller pots or larger pots for my larger plants. I don't have too many to do but was told once that on my money that I have I was told the pot was too big for it. I am also concerned that a jade plant I recently received is in a pot that's too small for proper growth. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated. Thank You

I've read on here pot size doesn't matter much in a properly made Gritty.

The old warnings of potting in too large a pot was based on using a mix that retained too much water. In that case you were depending on the plant to transpire away the excess water, impossible, if planted in too big a pot, for the size of the plant. With a well drained mix like Gritty mix such is not a problem. Al

Ox and Al are exactly right.
What would help would be pics of the plants and pots in question. You are correct that too small a container will not allow for proper growth - and Jades like root-run like anything else.
