Ideas for what to grow in my bin!

haloony(6B)October 10, 2011

Hey Gardenwebbers!

I am a beginner gardener and I am always looking for cool new beginner projects to embark on. Recently, I noticed that I have an unused bin in my room and I figured that it could make a cool container garden. I was hoping for some ideas of what I can do. The only real conditions that I have is that it needs to be something a newbie can do and something that I can start on right now. Other than that, I am pretty much open to any gardening projects. I have attached the bin as a picture so you can see the dimensions and type.

Let the ideas flow!

What window (side of the building) do you have available?

Hi purpleinopp,

The most accessible window that I have is a South facing window. It is large but does not get much direct sunlight. I also have a back porch that gets a lot of direct sunlight. The problem with my window is that there is a desk in front of it and while it is easy to have a flower pot on the desk, this would be difficult with the bin. This is why I am leaning towards keeping the bin on my back porch.

It's deep enough to grow broccoli, but you'd probably just have room for one plant. If you fill it half-way, you could grow bok-choi, rappini, or lettuce.
