Cross-pollination question

aphroditelaughs(Puget Sound)December 19, 2008

Hello all.

I am planning to grow several varieties of melons, zucchini, squash and cucumbers this year (I'll figure out how to fit them all later!), and I am wondering about saving seed from them if they cross-pollinate. My biggest worry is that I have heard zucchini can pollinate cucumbers and the resulting plants produce cucumbers that are incredibly bitter. I know about making cages for each type of plant, but frankly, I do not have the time/energy for that. What do others do? have you had problems with cross-pollination? Do you just grow your favorite and hope for the best? Any advise is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Ellie

Please see Clarification Saving Seed & Growing a thread below. Remy just gave a good explanation on this.
