question about potatoes

Since Irish potatoes and sweet potatoes are in different families would it be ok to plant sweet potatoes where I have my Irish potatoes after I dig them up?

Given you are in zone 9, you could do it, but will likely have some issues with soil fertility. Sweet potatoes do not like high levels of nitrogen in the soil.
